— Ashton Lane Proprietors, Concrete Campfire & Alliance Francaise de Glasgow presents —
Celebrating the major cultural event in the French calendar, La Fete de la Musique is a tradition whereby musicians of all genres / calibres play for free. The event is generally open to any musician (amateur or professional) who wants to perform.
Launched in 1992 and currently held in more than a hundred countries worldwide, the event takes place every year around 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. This year's Glasgow event will take place in Ashton Lane as part of the West End Festival on Saturday 19th June 2010.
Attracting many different styles of music from opera to acoustic rock, the performances can take place in open air areas and public buildings such as streets and train stations, museums and parks. Young and emerging musicians are encouraged to take part in the event alongside established talent, forging new alliances and exchanges between different musical genres. The Ashton Lane Bars and Restaurants, Concrete Campfire and Alliance Francaise de Glasgow have again united to produce a fantastic programme which last year included a classical string quartet, jazz, a French choir, and local musicians from the folk and indie scenes, all playing for free in the venues and busking outside. The Chip will host an open folk session, Vodka Wodka will have DJ sets from the likes of The Twilight Sad DJs and Sidewinder DJs. Brel will have indie bands and we hope a French mademoiselle DJing, Jinty's will have singer song writers and there will be bands in The Loft and Radio. Expect an outdoor stage with The Hidden Lane Choir and The Second Hand Marching Band.
Performers will be in and around Brel, Vodka Wodka, Jinty McGuinty's, The Ubiquitous Chip and The Grosvenor / Loft / Radio complex from midday to 10pm and DJs till 1am. Sponsored by Kopparberg.
