Torchlight Parade

Last year nearly a thousand people joined us to mark Scotland's Patron Saint day with a spectacular Torchlight Parade with Samba bands and pipers!

This exciting new community-based event kicked off Scotland’s Winter Festivals programme and was funded by EventScotland with support from Glasgow City Council, The Byres Road and Lanes BID and the W M Mann Foundation.

Now we are back for a third year with more support than ever, and we are delighted that the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Cllr Eva Bolander, has agreed to be the Patron of this great event.

Did you know that - apart from Scotland - Greece, Russia and the Ukraine all acknowledge St Andrew as their patron saints?  And there are other regions and territories. too.   We will be inviting students and residents from those countries to take part.

In 2016 we made a donation to local charity the Beatson Cancer Charity, and in 2017 it was the turn of Spirit Aid — with actor and director David Hayman leading the parade.   David will once again be involved with Spirit Aid to highlight the relevance of community coming together to support those who need it most.   Please buy a torch and support this event and local charities.

The parade will form up from 6.15pm, inside the Botanic Gardens and will proceed via the main gate down Byres Road and end up at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries.  There will be pipe bands and a display of fire dancers at the end.   We invite you to stick around the west end and enjoy a meal or a drink in one of the many splendid bars and eating places.  Make a night of it!
