ANONYMOUS RESIDENT ‘FIXES IT’ FOR AUDIENCES TO SEE
RED NOTE ENSEMBLE’S REEL TO RAGAS GIG FOR HALF PRICE
Cottier Chamber Project, Monday 18 June 2012
Fresh from their appearances in London and the Bath Festival, the Red Note Ensemble are bringing a special hour-long Glasgow edition of their popular summer tour to the West End Festival’s Cottier Chamber Project. Featuring internationally renowned tabla player Kuljit Bhamra alongside Red Note’s string players, the programme will involve a journey from the toe-tapping melodies of the western isles to the mesmerising rhythmic patterns of Indian raga and back again, all performed in Red Note’s inimitable style!
The inclusion of strong traditional music elements in the programme of the Cottier Chamber Project has been a feature this year, with classical music inspired by western folk traditions throughout, as well as a focus on Scottish music. Red Note’s daring programme takes two very different cultures and throws them into one melting pot – the collision of musical ideas is spectacular!
One very generous West End resident, who wishes to remain anonymous but describes himself as a “Jimmy Saville-like figure” loved the idea of Bollywood and Bagpipes so much, that he approached the West End Festival’s Michael Dale with the suggestion of sponsoring the concert.
Michael Dale said, “This last minute generosity and sense of community is exactly what The West End Festival is all about. As a result of this donation, we are now able to reduce the ticket price to £5, giving audiences the chance to enjoy live world class music for roughly half the cost of a cinema ticket. In this Year of Creative Scotland it is particularly exciting to be able to stage a concert like this, where we celebrate Scotland’s creative diversity with such flair.”
The Creative Scotland funded series also offers free entry for anyone with a ‘Beard Like Brahms’. Guidelines for acceptable facial hair can be found at www.cottierchamberproject.com/beards.htm.
